Multi Gas Detectors

Multi-gas detectors exist because real atmospheres fail in combinations: oxygen drops while methane rises, hydrogen sulfide hides under a combustible reading. A multi-gas instrument reads the set together — typically oxygen, combustibles, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide in the 4-in-1 class — and alarms on any channel.

This category spans the 4-in-1 MS400S and MS104K-M, the 6-in-1 MS600, the 6/7-in-1 MS600S, hypothetical 5-in-1 configurations of the same platforms, and the PTM600 with up to 18 channels for analysis work.

The standard four and what joins them

The classic four — O2, EX, CO, H2S — cover the confined-space core set. Adding channels brings carbon dioxide for beverage and fermentation spaces, volatile organics by PID for chemical work, or ammonia and sulfur dioxide for specific processes. Each added sensor is a cost and a calibration duty, so the channel list should follow the site risk assessment, not a brochure.

Alarm architecture matters as much as channels: low and high instantaneous alarms protect against excursions, while TWA and STEL modes track the dose across a shift. Every multi-gas model here carries both families of alarm.

Fleet considerations

Pumped models (MS400S, MS600, MS104K-M) serve pre-entry and remote sampling; the touchscreen MS600S serves teams who log heavily and move data by telemetry. Calibration gas, bump routines and spare sensors are the running costs — the calibration guide explains the routine, and the comparison page sets 4-in-1 against 6-in-1 ownership directly.
